Verisity Introduces University Program

Academic Program Another Avenue for Open Access to the e Verification Language

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 2001--Verisity, Ltd. (Nasdaq:VRST - news), the leading provider of functional verification automation, today announced a program designed to support universities in their verification-related education and research. Verisity's University Program unites Verisity with universities all over the world in providing engineers with open access to the e verification language. University members receive free access to Verisity's functional verification solutions, including Specman Elite(TM) and the e verification language, SureCov(TM) and SureLint(TM), as well as support for their research projects. Initial members in the program are: Chemnitz University of Technology in Chemnitz, Germany; Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, Canada; India Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India; Institute of Microelectronic Circuits and Systems, Hannover, Germany; Institute for System Level Integration in Edinburgh, Scotland; McGill University, Montreal, Canada; Technion--Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan; University of Tuebingen, Germany.

"It's important for academia to provide their students with access to the latest tools and technology, while the commercial industry finds it beneficial for the students to have experience with industry standards," said Yaron Kashai, vice president of research and strategic technologies, Verisity Design. "Verisity's solutions are the most widely used for functional verification because they produce high-quality products while increasing engineers' productivity. Verisity is committed to working with the industry to support open standards and this program extends this to the academia. "

"As universities work in close cooperation with commercial companies on research projects, it's imperative that we have access to the same tools and methodologies," said Robert Siegmund, Department of Systems and Circuit Design at the Chemnitz University of Technology. "Through Verisity's University Program, we have access to the e verification language, the methodology and market-proven tools for our research projects. This enables us to work with verification environments that are highly compatible with those of our commercial partners."

The universities in the program are using Verisity's solutions for a range of projects including e-based tool research and development, student research projects in verifying complex designs, cooperative research with commercial companies, course laboratories and tool and methodology instruction. Any educational institution with research programs focusing on innovative verification techniques, formal methods, language semantics and high-level specifications, or research projects involving complex verification tasks may join the program.

"While universities are currently doing research on many topics in verification -- both in theory and practice -- it is indispensable to have a tool such as Specman Elite to show us how productive commercial tools are," said Zeljko Zilic, professor at McGill University. "By using Specman Elite, we have learned a lot on verification methodology, in a very short time."
